Richhill, Hamiltonsbawn and District Golden Jubilee Committee’s

Thanks to the generosity of the Big Lottery Fund and Armagh City and District Council, Richhill, Hamiltonsbawn and District Golden Jubilee Committee have been able to organise a  family fun day  packed with activities and entertainment to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of VE/VJ Day.

On Friday 2nd September 2005 the Homelanders (from Heritage Tours, Scotland) will be performing in Armagh Orange Hall at 7.45pm.

Saturday kick starts with a 1940’s style Fancy Dress Parade led from the Square to the playing fields by the Ulster Accordion Band/Orchestra from Toronto, Canada and Ballytyrone Accordion Band. Pride of place on the day will be given to local veterans.

Following the parade, entertainment for the children includes a Puppet Show, Circus Acts, Sumo Wrestling, Fun House, Bouncy Castle, Castle Assault Course, Mascot Characters, Magician, Giant Games.

Adults can listen to the Ulster Accordion Band Orchestra, watch and enjoy our local dancers, sing a long to war time favourites at the Concert in  the marquee featuring Elaine Woods, Drew Melville and Kenny McDowell or listen to well known historian and writer, David Truesdale, speak on 'The Royal Irish Fusiliers, 175 years of service'.
Static displays include World War II Memorabilia and Domestic, Farm and Military vehicles from the era.

Ann Black will have a Typical Forties Style Home Interior on display from Thursday afternoon; all day Friday and Saturday morning.

At 5pm The Royal British Legion will be holding a Parade attended by the Connaught Rangers and led by the RIR Band. A Service of Remembrance at the War Memorial will follow.

The fun day will conclude with the music of the fantastic Glenn Miller Tribute Orchestra from 7.30pm in the marquee in the Playing Fields.

This is a cross community, cross border event and everyone is welcome to come along to celebrate these great victories and have a great family fun day.
